| About Youth Court |

|
An alternative diversion program designed to redirect juvenile offenders and prevent them from becoming entangled in the criminal justice system. Youth court also provides youth volunteers with a valuable education about the courts, law, community outreach, service, and leadership. |
A volunteer Superior Court Judge presides over a court proceeding with local high school students assuming the roles of district attorney, public defender, jurors, clerk and bailiff. Guided by their teachers and legal professionals, students prepare to argue their assigned case in front of a youth jury, responsible for determining a fair and just sentence for the juvenile offender.
Youth Court is a LawWorks Partnership of the Center for Youth Citizenship. LawWorks is a model law education partnership designed to connect teachers and legal professionals, expanding service to schools and local communities. Through its service, leadership, moot court, mock trial, and youth court components, LawWorks provides youth with the opportunity to develop the academic and citizenship skills needed by our young citizens and future leaders. |
