About the California Schools of Character
(CSOC) awards program
In 2006, CYC announced the creation of the California
Schools of Character (CSOC) awards program. Sponsored by CYC, the annual awards program recognizes schools or
districts that demonstrate an outstanding character education
initiative that yields positive results in student behavior,
school climate, and academic performance. One or more applicants
are chosen each year as California’s nominee(s) to the national
level competition, conducted by the Character Education Partnership.
California Schools of Character and Promising Practices are
honored annually at the Highest Office: Citizen Community
Forum and during special recognition assemblies at their school
sites.
To be eligible, a school must have been engaged in
character education for a minimum of three full years,
starting no later than December 2006 for the 2010 awards.
Districts need to have been engaged in character education
for a minimum of four full years, starting no later than December
2005.
